Why it matters

Forced account creation is the #2 reason for checkout abandonment in Baymard's research, right after surprise costs.

We do not read your code. We buy something.

A checkout audit tests the payment path against fixed rules: guest checkout, field count, error handling, cost transparency and payment options. We judge 50 checkout rules, which carry half of a store's total score, because published research puts most abandonment causes inside checkout.

Most stores we have published score between 52 and 70 out of 100. The median is 58, across 5 published audits. The two weakest areas are Trust signals, with a mean of 32.2, and Cost transparency, at 41.4.

Baymard's research across 50 studies puts the reasons in order: 40% of abandoners blame extra costs, 19% did not trust the site with their card, 18% were asked to create an account, 17% found the checkout too long. Each of those is a rule below.

Do you test a real purchase?

We walk to the payment step and stop before paying. No card is ever entered.

Do you need a test card or a login?

No. Everything is judged from what a guest can see.

What if my checkout is one page?

The rules allow a one page equivalent. CHK-002 asks for five steps or fewer, or one page.

Does a Shopify checkout pass by default?

No. Several rules depend on settings and apps, not on the platform.

Is it really free?

The score and three findings are free. The full report is a one off payment.

Is this an AI guessing?

No. 115 fixed rules, each judged pass, partial or fail, each with a screenshot as proof.
